A new track , great sunshine and strong competition greeted three of Sportsworld finest at the Dublin Open Track and Field Championships 2010 in Santry.

Crona and Aoife Brady were first up taking part in the womens 3K. Lorraine Manning of Raheny took an early lead and for much of the race looked like she would walk away with the title.  Aoife never defeated easily ran a great race to shake off the competition and close the gap in the last few laps. On the last lap with just 300 meters to go it looked like Aoife would catch Lorainne but with only one lap remaining the lead proved too big to make up.  Aoife finished second and picked up a silver medal in an impressive 10:06 less than five seconds behind the race winner. Crona ran a strong consistant race and finished just a few places back  in fifth looking strong for the entire race. Both Brady’s look to be coming into good form ahead of the national in July.

Next up was Paul Duffy in the 5K. A tough race requiring allot of concentration but no bother to arguably the best performing athlete in the club this year.  Paul only a short  while ago was chasing sub 16 minutes now he seems headed for 15:30 and beyond.  Paul showed no fear going out with the leading group and sticking with them well into the second half of the race. Only falling back in the last few laps Paul finished the race in seventh in a fantastic 15:45 in his  first 5K on the track.
