As with every year the Raheny AXA 5 mile road race attracted a usual large number of Sportsworld runners. Despite the heavy rain that would not cease since early morning hours a record number of over 2000 athletes arrived to take part in one of the biggest club races in Dublin. The event was won by Mullingar Harriers runner Mark Christie (23.29) and the recent Dublin Marathon’s star Linda Byrne from DSD was first woman to finish the race (26.23).
Paul O’Connell was first home of Sportsword runners in 28th position overall followed by Paul Duffy (29th) and Phil Kilgannon (32nd). Our senior ladies team was third with vets ladies team claiming second. Three of our ladies got individual prizes: Carol Lynch was third, Sandra Armstrong second and Judith Lloyd came first in their age categories.
A lot of great individual perfomances with many PBs so we can easily say that truly miserable weather didn’t dampen our spirits.
Thanks to Natalia for the support and race report.
